                                                 INVITATION

    Have you ever invited by someone or an institution? or have you ever accepted an invitation? Of course the answer is yes, but do you know what invitation is? Lets study and discuss it together.

An invitation is a spoken or written request to somebody to do something or to go somewhere. In another definition says that an invitation is a request, a solicitation, or an attempt to get another person to join us at a specific event. 

 There are two types of invitation:

1. Formal invitation; an invitation which follows a dignified form, tone, or style in agreement with the established norms, customs, or values. Formal invitations are invitation to official functions or formal occasions.Most formal invitations should be replied. The examples of formal invitation is  graduation ceremony, wedding, grand opening, etc. 

Formal invitations are printed on special cards. Formal invitation can be written as letters and cards. Formal invitations are issued for formal functions. Here are the examples :

1. The opening of an art gallery, a company, or a firm

2. Meetings or conferences

3. The launching of a product

4. A special exhibition or promotion

5. Introducing new members or partners

6. Wedding ceremony

7. Inaugurations

8. Formal Dinner with partner/clients

9. Etc.

Social Function of Formal Invitation:

a. to maintain interpersonal relationship in formal context

b. to invite someone to formal and social events

Structure of Formal Invitation

An invitation consists of requesting someones presence, stating the specific event, and setting the date, time, and place. here is the general structure of formal invitation:

b the name of person/company/institution who invites

c the request for participation

d. the occasion or event for the invitation

e. the purpose of the event

f. the date, time, and place of the occasion

g special instructions

h. the request for reply (R.S.V.P; respondez s'ill vous plait/French expression means the invitee should respon the invitation by calling or writing the host)

RSVP contains telephone numbers, contact persons, address, or emails.

2. Informal Invitation

Informal invitation is an invitation about personal requirement that is written informally.An informal invitation is a personal invitation given to a friend, family like birthday party, family gathering.
