The use of "I think", "I suppose", and "In my opinion"

We have already discussed  about opinion . We may use the following gambits:

- I think...

- I suppose....

- In my opinion....

Pay attention to the following explanation:

I think

I think is informal way to give opinion. It is used to make opinions and statements sound less dogmatic (dogma/kepercayaan terhadap sesuatu misal..tradisi....)

Examples:

1. I think you are wrong.

2. I think we should be careful.

From the above two examples, we know that the pattern is:

          I think (that) (opinion sentences)

I suppose 

I suppose is used to give opinion as a guess. It is used to enquire (menanyakan) politely about something. It can also be used to suggest unwilling agreement. Suppose is used to say that you have an opinion or you believe something to be true.

Examples:

1. I suppose you have known each other for a long time.

2. I suppose you are hungry now.

When responding to an idea with "suppose" , we can use "so" to avoid repeating the idea that has already been expressed. It is also used to say that you agree with something.

The pattern of suppose is:

          I suppose (that) (opinion sentence).

In my opinion

In my opinion is  a formal way to state opinion.

Examples:

1. In my opinion, Mr Akbar is a good teacher.

2. In my opinion, we should follow daring on time.

The pattern is :

           In my opinion, (opinion sentence)
